Homeland Security
& Disaster Medicine: Forward Products for Frontline Responders
In the wake of man-made and natural disasters such as 9/11
and Hurricane Katrina, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security
(DHS) has challenged the private sector to develop new technologies
for domestic preparedness and disaster response. The DHS Homeland
Security Advanced Research Projects Agency (HSARPA) has encouraged
businesses to accelerate the research, prototyping and production
of innovative technologies that can be put to use by frontline
responders for catastrophic events.
Forward Medical is dedicated to identifying, developing and
commercializing innovative medical devices designed to support
local, state and federal medical services personnel - the
frontline responders who triage patients and provide critical
medical care during natural and technological disasters, major
transportation accidents and acts of terrorism.

and development of innovative technologies – including

– and responders to – domestic disasters, including
specialized DMATs for crush injury and burn emergencies;
• National Medical Home Response Teams
(NMRTs) dealing with the medical consequences of incidents
potentially involving chemical, biological and nuclear materials;
