Hospital: Forward Products for Emergency and Trauma Care

"By creating partnerships in the fields of business, research and development, and technology, the emergency department can become more efficient, cost-effective and able to provide advanced treatments with the newest technology."

Comilla Sasson, M.D. President,
Emergency Medicine Residents' Association (EMRA)

Hospital emergency departments are an increasingly significant component of the U.S. health care system. Last year, approximately 114 million people visited hospital emergency departments, representing about 38.4 visits per every 100 people in the country. In fact, visits to emergency departments increased 20% over the past decade.
Yet, during these same years, the number of emergency departments has actually decreased by 15%. Accordingly, many emergency departments report heavy financial pressure to meet the increased demand for services. A concerted effort needs to be made to ensure that those very hospital departments that support life - do not end up on life support themselves. The development of innovative and cost-efficient emergency medical products is a critical part of any proposed solution.

Forward Medical is dedicated to identifying, developing and commercializing medical devices that improve the ability of emergency department, trauma and critical care professionals to provide high quality and cost-efficient medical care. Forward Medical products will be used to rapidly process and treat trauma injuries; stabilize critically ill patients; and manage less urgent conditions such as minor injuries, acute and chronic illnesses.

Forward Medical will identify and design devices for such areas as: airway/breathing management, diagnostics & monitoring, hemorrhage control & vascular access, immobilization, and resuscitation. Product development will be optimized by incorporating the input and involving active participation of emergency medical professionals from:
